The series, created by William Blinn , consists of 93 episodes, which includes 92 of the last 48 minutes and a pilot for 90 minutes.

History and actors
The protagonists are two cops very different in temperament and style of life but joined by a great friendship. Employed by the Ninth Police Station Los Angeles (California), the structure now known as "San Pedro Municipal Building" or "San Pedro's City Hall (638 S. Beacon Street). Much of the footage was shot in Los Angeles cited, and, in Century City, Venice Beach, Pico Boulevard, St. Beacon Stree, S Pedro.
David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser ) is the policeman of the road, curls blacks and shamble, now in the police academy after a difficult childhood (he was in charge of his mother and younger brother after his father's murder) and the experience of war in Vietnam . Messy, disheveled, impulsive, eats only fast food in and is never separated by the automatism hidden under a brown leather jacket. Lovebirds are also light blue sneakers with white stripes Adidas (currently still on sale) that fits in the first episodes of the television seasons.
Hutchinson Kenneth "Ken Hutch (David Soul ) is instead the son of a farmer, and entered the Academy after having left school to college. Reserved, shy, intuitive, sometimes almost in spite of the powerful intellectual revolver "Colt Python, 357 Magnum caliber, wielding against criminals, macrobiotic diets and trains to stay in shape. In many episodes we see him driving a Ford Galaxie 500 in 1973.
Intrepid and cheerful, dressed in jeans , flared trousers and leather jackets, two police officers serving on board a Ford Gran Torino red with a white stripe on the sides, license plate 537 ONN, call radio code "Zebra 3". Pretty girls, drifting, spinning and grinding of brakes are worthy complement to any bet. There is one small detail: The same car Ford Gran Torino red with white stripe on the sides and without the plate had appeared in an episode entitled "Slot machine", the first series of the show Hazzard, and the wheel was just Cooter Davenport, played by Ben Jones . In the series have a role other two characters: the grumpy Captain Dobey (Bernie Hamilton ), that only the pilot episode is played by Richard Ward and, especially, the informant Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas ) a bar owner in the slums and people are always aware of all the illicit traffic of the city.

A dub the voice of actor Paul Michael Glaser is Manlio De Angelis, while actor David Soul is voiced by Cesare Barbetti.
from The pilot - never dubbed in Italian - are extrapolated some images that will be used, and then with others, to create the opening credits of the episodes from all four television seasons.
During the filming, especially in scenes of high risk, both actors Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul, will be replaced by stunt doubles, respectively, by stuntman Charlie Picerni and Gary Epper. Among the curiosities
signals the opening scene of the episode "The Tiger of Omaha" (first season) which is the same that you see in the episode "The Seer" (second season).
The setting in the slums, the irony of the lyrics and the strong feeling of friendship between the two protagonists are the elements that contributed the most to the success of the series. As of the third season, the writers fell for the action scenes more emotional content because of growing concern about excessive violence on television, contributing to the rapid decline in popularity of the series. The subsequent decision by the actor Paul Michael Glaser to abandon filming on the fourth season, put an end to the popular series.

Film
In 2004 came out Starsky & Hutch, a remake of the film TV series directed by Todd Phillips with Ben Stiller (Starsky), Owen Wilson (Hutch) and Snoop Dogg (Huggy Bear). The film seems designed as a second pilot for the series (in fact part of the constitution of the couple "Starsky and Hutch"), but the content is much closer to the final season. In the end, a small cameo with the original Starsky and Hutch (Glaser and Soul) clones to young people who deliver the keys to a new Ford Gran Torino.
